NGO Gariwo and Foundation Imam petlju Gariwo are organizing a Round Table on the Role of Demonstration in Exercising Civil Rights which will be held on 24.11.2009 at 10 am in Dom Oruzanih Snaga BiH. The purpose of the round table is to inform and encourage citizens and representatives of civil society to discuss the importance of developments of civil courage and demonstrations as a way to take an active role in solving issues and bringing about positive changes in society. Ambassadors of Kingdom of Norway and France, and Deputy Chief of Mission of US Embassy will address the participants, while representatives of local non-governmental organizations will present their own experiences and evoke a discussion on the topic that is becoming increasingly relevant for the citizens of BH. On November 6, 2009, NGO Gariwo and Foundation Imam Petlju Gariwo have held a lecture on civil courage in Second High School in Zenica. The lecture was attended by around 100 fourth grade students and their professors.
Students were introduced to the concept and examples of civil courage and with the Duško Kondor Award for Civil Courage. This sparked great interest with the students and so they actively and constructively participated in the discussion that followed. Due to a great interest expressed for the formentioned subject matter, continued cooperation with this institution was arranged and students were invited to commemorate the Awards Ceremony Duško Kondor Award for Civil Courage which will be held in Sarajevo on 23.2.2010.
At the end of the lecture, students received books „Imam petlju“ and „Seven Steps of Non-violent Resistance“.
NGO Gariwo and Foundation Imam petlju Gariwo organized fourth session „
Meetings with ambassadors“ last night. Guest speaker was Mrs. Caroline
Ravoud Special representative of the Secretary General of the Council
of Europe and Head of the mission in BiH. The topic of last night
discussion was „ Student's influence on decision making process of EU
politicians”. In introductory speech Mrs. Ravoud has presented a
global picture of the Council of Europe, Council of Europe monitoring
procedures as well as how Bosnia and Herzegovina fits into the
monitoring procedures.
Dr Svetlana Broz and Team of Foundation „Imam petlju Gariwo" and NGO Gariwo held a lecture at the Second Gymnasium in Sarajevo on topic civic courage. The participants were fourth year students and their professors.
During the lecture students have been introduced with the concept of civic courage, examples of civic courage during the war as well as examples of civic courage today. Students become familiar with Dusko Kondor Civil Courage Award as well as with Dusko Kondor Civil Courage Award ceremony. During the lecture students show great interest for the above mentioned topic. Students and thier professors have been invited to join the Dusko Kondor Civil Courage Award ceremony which will be held on 23rd February.2010.After the lecture, participants are given a book "Seven steps of non-violent resistance" and a book of essays "Having what it takes"
Team of Foundation "Imam petllju Gariwo“ and NGO „Gariwo“ gave a lecture on the civil courage to group of students from American University Washington – D.C .Department of International relations, peace building and conflict resolution.
At this meeting the students were presented the activities of the Foundation "Imam petlju Gariwo and NGO Gariwo, students get introduced with the concept of civil courage as well as examples of civil courage in this area. Students showed great interest in this topic and continued with further discussion after the lecture.
